Six Word Saturday

.
my Six Words:
missing Guy Fawkes Night this year?

Last year we were in London on November 5th and got to burn Guy Fawkes in effigy.  That was a different experience for us.

This year we will not be able to attend.  I will have these pictures to help me remember of the bonfire though.

A lot of work went into the building of this bonfire and it took a while to get it going good.  But when it did that was about all.  Enjoy the pictures, we did (Mrs. Jim and my picture, bottom right).

Feline Friday ~~ Cats of Greece [ 01]
and
My Five Things Today

[One] These kittens were running "wild" atop the little mountain at a monastery stop in Meteora, Greece.

Our ship was docked in Volos, Greece, and we had bussed up to here.  Oh, yes, there was a little climb for visiting these.

[(still) One] The last picture shows where we were.

[Two] I celebrated my birthday this week with the help of friends, family, and Mrs. Jim.  My birthday was October 30 but our family spreads the birthday stuff out for a few or many days.  Above was on the 29th, when we played Texas 42 with these friends.  Our host had baked a birthday cake for me.

[Three]  Some of the family joined me for supper on the 30th at our local Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen restaurant.  I had a fried catfish poboy, a salad, and cheesecake.  My grandson-in-law took the picture.  His wife (my oldest of four granddaughters), the next oldest granddaughter, my youngest son (he is single, ladies), a great-granddaughter, Mrs. Jim, and my older daughter all came to help.

[Four] On the 31st, Halloween Day, I drove a friend to his doctor's appointment in the Woodlands.  He was not allowed to drive as he had a pacemaker installed during the weekend after having a heart attack.

On the way home we stopped to check on his toy (an airplane, not pictured) and a hanger he is building.  This toy, a 1928 Piper Cub, belongs to a friend.  His other toys were two more airplanes, three antique cars, and an old motorcycle.

[Five] That evening, the 31st, we went to the University of Houston(stats and schedule)/South Florida University football game.  My Houston team won, 35-26.  They now have seven wins with one loss (7-1).

Mrs. Jim treated me to the game for my birthday.  It was very festive due to it being Halloween night.  Many of the spectators Houston college performers and help were in costume.  There were several categories for costume dress.

Held at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the stadium is also home to the Houston Texans.  There was some concern that we might not be able to get into due to the heavy rains we had on the 30th and 31st.  But it had stopped by game time and we weaved through the streets that were open.  Some neighbors where we live measured over seven inches.

.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes and cards!
(wishes both here and on my FaceBook)

My birthday celebrating started last night with these seven friends, Dick, Dot, Mrs. Jim, Liz, Walter, Faith, and Stan.  We were playing Texas 42's, a domino game that involves bidding and making the bid.

We were at Dick and Dot's home and Dot had made me a caramel cake with strawberries baked into the top.  It was served with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.

Mrs. Jim had sneaked two of the ten candles to be the kind that one couldn't blow out easily.  I finally got them out.  This is a not a very good picture of me.  I suppose it might be what I look like.

My cake has ten candles.  I won't tell my age on-line but my birthday is multiple of the number of candles.  At the right is my score card.  I was the winner for the night.  49 is a perfect score, mine was 43.

Trivia:  Ms. Liz also plays golf.  Better still, she once had two holes-in-one on the same day.

Today we will meet with some of the family for supper at our Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen restaurant.  Eight of us will be there which is just under half of the Houston area family.  Tomorrow night we will attend the University of Houston/South Florida football game.  It will be played at the  Stadium and will be on ESPN Television network.

We had over three inches of rain this morning.  These are a couple of pictures I took this morning from our back porch showing all of the water collecting on the golf course.  It is supposed to rain a lot more late tonight, then subside by early evening tomorrow.
Time will be early enough for a safe drive into Houston, we are hoping.
