Six Word Saturday — Did peanut butter prices just get lower?

I was checking on my peanut butter price when the Kroger ads said to look for new low prices throughout the store. When I came up onto the peanut butter sure enough, there was this big arrow pointing down to the kind I use.
.
But it wasn't lower! The price of my peanut butter was higher than it had ever been!
.
For quite a long time these 18 ounce jars of Kroger (store brand) peanut butter had been $1.27. Then it went up again, to $1.34. But I always bought it on sale, either ten for $10 or as of late four for $5.00.
.
I found a manager and told him that the big arrow sign shouldn't be here and for sure he should take off the 'Low Price' part of the price marker. He mentioned that his wife always bought this peanut butter and that he would check on the situation.
.
I will keep you posted but I'm not holding my breath for a price change downward.

Flashback Friday # 27 ~ Poetry in Jim's Life

.. April is National Poetry Month
.
Appropriately, the Flashback Friday theme for this week:
What memories do you have of poetry's place in your life growing up? And in your later years?
That was the big question Linda poised for us this week (to see others or if you want to join in with fun of writing up your experiences, please click on the icon to the right). I like poetry so here goes:
Her questions: What poems do you remember from your childhood? Did you have to memorize many poems for school when you were growing up? Did you learn any just for fun? Do you remember which ones they were--and can you still recite them? Did you have a poetry book that you liked to read? Do you enjoy poetry today? Do you prefer rhyming poetry or free verse? Whimsical poetry or epic poems that tell a story? Do you have a favorite poem or poet? Have you ever written any poems?
Most of the early poems that I remember are nursery rhymes. I still can recite them fairly well. I am thinking though, that the present generations have not learned these very well. This is something that we as parents and grandparents can change.

'Jack and Jill' and the 'Cow Jumped Over the Moon' were my favorites. I still like them as well as Jack Sprat, Humpty Dumpty and Mother Hubbard and the others. I memorized every one of those that I would read.

When I was in the eighth grade, it could have been earlier, I had to memorize a poem of my own choosing. I picked Abou Ben Adhem by James Henry Leigh Hunt as my project. I can remember it fairly well yet today.

That year for Christmas I was given by Santa a gray covered thin paper back book of poetry. Abou Ben Adhem was in it. I still have that book someplace. It will be on my bookshelf when I finish reorganizing my office.

Abou Ben Adhem

.
Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still, and said "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."
.
The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest
.

I like both the whimsical and the epic poems. I wrote a few poems in grade school and then again in college. I think none of those are saved. I am writing a few poems again now, thanks to blogging.
Most every Sunday I post a poem that I have written for a group called One Single Impression (OSI). They are all 171 posted here: Jim's Little Photo and Poem Place (blog). (A few are also on this Jim's Little Blog but not many.)
There I try to infuse a little of the small wit that I have into some of those poems. Some are rhyming as I find this a challenge. There are also haiku, senryū, tanka, acrostics, and a few others that I am learning.
I suppose most of them really aren't very good but the others who write for OSI are nice and forgiving of me and offer a lot of encouragement. I would be pleased for you to take a peek at Jim's Little Photo and Poem Place .

Yesterday the daddy eagle went hunting. He brings home squrrels, fish, and other meat for Mom and the young ones. No worms yet that I've seen. Update: April 6, 2011 -- The third eaglet is born. 7:54 Minute Video

Decorah Eagles (live video)

March 26, 2012, update:
The 2012 eggs are about to start hatching
Video below will be current for 2012
.
The eagles have left their nest
this is an earlier post -- the camera is still current
(June 21, 2011 update)
check out their activities from the links below

Video clips at Ustream

Click on the little 'go arrow' at the lower left here. Then wait for a 30 second commercial to finish.

Don't click the big arrow in the middle as it will 'carry you away.' Click on this link if you want to be carried away: Decorah Eagles .

You should be seeing a webcam image of an eagle's nest and surrounding activity. If you have trouble with this then try the Decorah Eagles site itself. I think it goes blank/dark for Iowa night around nine CDST.

This nest is four years old and the same eagle couple inhabits it every year. The Eagle nest is located at Decorah, Iowa (link 1 -- for last years pictures) (Link 2 for info on the nesting and on the new camera system used this year). Last year I posted a little ditty, poem, blog on the lifespan of these birds. It had three pictures, of eggs, chicks, and birds ready to fly (Link). All three eggs hatched.

Update: Two of the eggs hatched over the weekend. The third is expected today or tomorrow.

I guess really it doesn't count until it is hatched.

New bed — MidWeek Blues — For Katrin, here's why

.

Katrin had a perfectly good bed. But when we went over to pick her up after our return from visiting Karen's in London there was no bed for her. The lady who keeps her was out but her husband could not find the bed.

That was not a problem for the moment although I helped him look for it and we both gave up on finding it. When the lady came home she called Mrs. Jim per instructions as the husband had given us too low a figure for her keep.

After settling on the fee, Mrs. Jim asked about the bed. She said to come on over. When Mrs. Jim got there this new bed was waiting in the utility room for us. Of course it wasn't Katrin's bed, not the one we had brought.

Then the lady fessed up. Another dog that she had named (neither of us can remember that dog's name) had attacked the bed and chewed it up until it was in pieces of foam rubber scattered on the floor.

We don't know who paid for this new bed. Mrs. Jim knows the dog's owner. Either the owner or the keeper lady paid for it. We don't care who. And Katrin is happy so all is well.

Oh yes, we think Katrin had brought a toy, a little stuffed chipmunk. We think we are ahead so the toy wasn't made an issue.

If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo picture on the right. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions . Just do what I did.

Or do less. All she requires is a BLUE PICTURE or BLUE THOUGHT, you don't have to write.

Happy UK Mother's Day, Karen!

.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, KAREN!

The pictures are some 'candid' shots we caught from Skype while talking with the kids in London. Daddy Billy got this cover page from off the Internet. It is a first for me. Good work! Our blogging friend, Rachel, used to call Karen the 'Wonder Woman' with all the things she did to keep herself busy, entertained, and employed. Not she's a good great Mum (thanks, Rachel) as well.

Today, Sunday, April 3, is Mother's Day in Great Britain.

Happy Mother's Day, Karen!
