We Got This e-Mail -- Midlife Crisis

Blogger is a Bugger today.
It refuses to upload pictures again. I had some nice granddaughter ones for you!

Before you read this, did you vote? Go to yesterday's post and turn in your choice for the picture caption.

So, sorry about this, well maybe not. I had to suffer with it and I thought maybe you would like to suffer along with me with things like this that you get in your e-mail too. [if they show up here, at least I read it]

midlife crisis -

Married 30 years, I took a look at my wife one day and said, "Honey, 30 years ago, we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bedand watched a 10 inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep everynight with a hot 25 year old blond.

.
Now, we have a nice house, nice car, big bed and plasma screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 55 year old woman. It seems to me that you are not holding up your side of things."
.

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find ahot 25 year old blond, and when I did, she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, and sleeping on a sofa bed.

[It does happen this way, I hear. They say its a big trade-off, so think more than twice.]

Maybe pictures again tomorrow or Monday?

Building Picture Location Info

.

This building was the former BUNA AUTO PARTS store in Buna, Texas. Cheyenne got the town, right on. Cheyenne, have you been there to recognize it or did you pick it off the store name sign?

Huricane Rita devastated East Texas. More than half the buildings still have not had their roofs repaired though they are patched over with blue plastic tarp material. A lot of the roofs have been repair now, and a few weren't damaged, at least not very much.

Rachel guessed Sour Lake, Texas, which is a little further to the south. We would like to know by what reasoning you came so close.

June Bug! June Bug! It's Brown, It's Brown! -- Blogdogs, Peas in a Pod?

Update: My June Bug Collection is over [please click] here. It includes a "BUG" for each month, every one of which, except this one for June, aren't really June Bugs. . . Until last night this was the only June Bug we have had this summer. It was in the dining room, just barely crawling along. After a couple of photo ops I released it; I really think it was done for. Most June bugs only live a short while. They come to the lights, fly around, and die. Of exhaustion? Maybe a heart attack? What color: brown, of course. Never green. Now it seems it all depends on where you came from as to what a true June bug is. Here's my kind (I'm a native Nebraskan):

To be fair to Rachel (April 17 blog), the article further goes on:

So Rachel is correct too, as she is from the south, born and raised??

Why until last night? Because last night another one came, bit the dust, and was lying on the back door mat this morning.

My Blogdog, Adi

First pea?

Now Adi is a real trouper. She goes with me almost everywhere, except when I leave the house. She goes outside with me, but not very often in the car, although she loves riding. Adi likes to be in my blogs, so far she has been mentioned in my blogs 82 posts since December, 2005.

As usal, while I'm blogging, Adi is right here with me. Tonight, in this picture, in the kitchen you will find us. Since we use a laptop, we might be most anyplace (remember this one?). The printer and scanner are in the bed room, so when I take the computer in to print or scan, Adi is in her bed in that room.

The bed you see goes with Adi wherever we are. In the car, it sits behind the passenger sear. When we are in the kitchen (or breakfast room) it is where you see it, under the breakfast room TV. When we are in the living room her bed makes it to between our recliners. If we forget to bring the bed,she lays in front of the couch on the rug.

Back to blogdogging. She is a buddy, more so, she is a watchdog. Look carefully, she is sleeping with one eye open. And her nose will twitch and ears perk up, just a little, if an event happens.

I don't hear the doorbell very good, Adi hears it real good. Either she will bark or run to the door to look through the glass window. One problem, she can't tell between some TV doorbells and the real one. It is a mystery to her how the TV bell can ring and no one is at the door.

Squirrels, yes, she sees them through the back bedroom window, just above her bed. Birds and cats too, or the neighbor's dog, don't escape her notice. If only, if only I 'd let her out.

Marty Morrow's Blogdog, Sebastian

The other pea?

In case you don't want to go there right now, Marty said: (I confess, I got the blogdog idea from him, he has a handsome blogging buddy as well, his Sebastian.)

Flag Day -- June 14, 2006 -- God Bless America!!

.
Long may it wave over the land of the free

A nice story by GC#4, Karen Jr.

I was honored today by GC#4 writing us a story for the blog.

Some background. Her daddy, our son-in-law, Billy, is an excellent golfer, generally shooting in the 70s. Mrs. Jim has been playing serious golf since she retired.

GC#4 has two dogs at home, Kabuki & Ruby. Her most cherished accomplishment so far was to make 100 in the TAKS** Test, the Reading portion. She also has a green belt in Karate.

.

Billy and Karen have graciously allowed us to have her here for this week to spend some time enjoying 'retirement' life. Last night GC#4 and Mrs. Jim went to the putting green, Karen Jr. is starting to play golf a little.

.

Fortunately/unfortunately her dogs couldn't come here to play. I don't think Adi minds that one bit, Karen Jr. and Adi have lots of un playing together.

.
Her Story:

Golf Championships
.
May first of 1997, the biggest golf tournament in the year was to take place. Not ordinary golf but Mini Putt-Putt.
.
Competitors and scores:
. . . . Mrs. Jim . . . . . . . . . . . . . 27
. . . . Billy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 26
.
Now all Billy needs is a hole in one Click, he made it. It was tied!
.
The end.

Feet to die for -- eat your hearts out

My Infamous Feet -- Contest Winners?

[click picture to enlarge]
.
Well, maybe not

Even so, they sure are keepers of mine. Tell you about all that business in a minute. First, several reasons why they should win the Ugly Foot Contest (
link to Ken Hoffman article)(link to my post about the article), at least the right one.
  1. Look at those two web toes on the right foot, no they don't Google or surf (except under water).
  2. How about the big toe nail on the right one? I tried to cure the fungus last winter, the nail fell off and is just now growing back on.
  3. Bunions anyone? Mrs. Jim has worse ones, our foot doctor wants to correct hers.
  4. They are both flat as the proverbial (Proverbs 5:3--smooth) pancake. Our foot doctor wants to repair the right one. He says it is just plain worn out. It kept me on crutches for three months in 2004, from September to October.
  5. None of the nails look very good. Had I been wearing these flip-flops, our vet people probably would have cut them for free when I got Adi's cut (link).
  6. How about crooked toes? Try to find a straight one here.
  7. No blisters, but lots of callouses. That ought to count for more tender concern than measly blisters.
  8. Eat your heart out Ken Hoffman, cause I wasn't invited. I can't run anymore and I don't skate. Well, I do skate, just haven't for a long time.

.

Now for the merits of these feet, aside from being not very pretty.

  1. They have walked over 500,000 miles walked a lot, at least 75,000 miles. at three per day. Remember, I walked one mile each way each day for grades one through eight. When I was running, I ran from two to six miles a day. [Shucks, I put over 300K on my Chevy S-10 just going to work and back. Well, a few trips to Corpus Christie, Waco, Louisiana, and Nebraska, but I'm sure I've walked as much as those trips besides the commute.]
  2. It's not only how far they have walked, more importantly to me is where. They have crossed Jesus' path several times a day for a week while we were in Israel in 1980. Too, we went to the Bible lands and walked to where the disciples and the new disciple, Paul had walked. We did miss Greece, but got Egypt pretty good. Jesus was there when he was very young. For all the other places I've walked, see my 'about me.'
  3. They are prime targets for foot rubs. Mrs. Jim even got me some foot rubbing lotion. She doesn't care much for rubbing them though, so I just rub them on the carpet. They aren't ticklish one bit.
  4. I've grown attached to them. If I'm 104 years old, so are they, or whatever age. Like my twins, not a day older and not a day younger than me.
  5. Those two web toes, they carry on a family tradition. And now the trait has been passed on to my daughter, Susie. The one who wanted to go to jail back in April.
  6. I think there're cute!

Passion of the Christ named most controversial film ever -- I haven't seen it, it isn't on my list

Chron.com Passion of the Christ named most controversial film ever

Well, well, how about that. The Da Vinci Code is at Number 13 for controversy. I haven't seen that one either.

I have seen Over The Hedge with GrandChild # 4, Karen Jr. All animated with not much plot. The animation and voice overs were fine for me. I think it should have been rated PG-13 instead of PG as there was violence and thievery (stealing food from peoples' houses) .

We saw RV, it was hilarious!

Three movies now showing are on my list, Cars, A Prairie Home Companion, and Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth (write-up).

Having been to Alaska and seeing what can be seen now, but before had been covered up with ice almost eon's old. Things are alarming, even without seeing the picture, just through reading, I feel our coastal cities will all be covered with 10s of feet of water by time for our grandchildren's old age.

To see An Inconvenient Truth, we will have to go to the Landmark River Oaks Theatre, 2009 West Gray Street, Houston, TX, 77019. That means a nice meal downtown someplace first.

Can we up load pictures now? YES, YES, MY FEET PICTURE UPLOADED!! Maybe it was because I only asked for medium size? See you there soon.

Oh, the agony of de feet -- Should I enter

Chron.com Oh, the agony of de feet

Ken Hoffman is my favorite columnist in our Houston Chronicle. I even followed him when he was in our old Houston Post.

Anyway, today's column is a winner in my book. He complained that while most newspaper columnists get to judge beauty contests, he is getting this year just the opposite.

He will be judging for the Houston Masters Sports Association running club (these are old guys, I could join if I were still running).

He will judge their Ugly Foot Contest, held in Houston's Memorial park on July 9. At nine the association will have a pancake breakfast and Ken is to judge all the jogger's and skater's feet while they are in the buffet line.

Maybe they will put on flip-flops like mine. Ken says he is supposed to be on the lookout for "the ugliest toes, crookedest toes, most appalling missing toenails and most painful-looking blisters and bruises."
.
They could be winners, the right one is a 'beauty.'
.

-------------------------------------------------
.

His--Ken Hoffman's--trivia question for the day asks us to name the lady who said "I've fallen and I can't get up." Remember that one?

Other goodies are there today too. Like the Cattlemen's Barbecue Sauce contest for the worst BBQ'er. Read about it, the link is www.cattlemensbbqsauce.com.

I have put Hoffman's old article (link) (new, link 2) about the rat in his grill in my side bar way back in February.

Do a www.chron.com search on Ken Hoffman to get ALL of his oldies.

More to come later, I apologize, I did some other things before posting this morning.

I'm on The Highway to Hell**

Adi Can . . . . . . Follow the Way

AC/DC
Highway To Hell (1979)
Highway To Hell

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payin' my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)

And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell
